Evelina Children’s Hospital

Plaque to celebrate HRH The Duchess of Cambridge becoming a Patron of the Evelina Children's Hospital

BAT Studio were commissioned to develop and fabricate a commemorative plaque. The plaque was designed so that HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and HRH The Duke of Cambridge, could complete the artwork with children from the hospital inserting the last remaining fingerprints.

The plaque was made from a London Plane tree that had been felled within London (to make way for part of the HS2 development). After been blocked up to create a solid surface, the design was carefully CNC’d and engraved. There are 150 fingerprints, representing the 150 years of the Evelina Hospital. Each fingerprint is slightly indented to give the impression it has been pushed into the plaque, with each print created from laser cut and engraved Perspex.
